When the Messenger is Hot
by Laura Eason
When the Messenger is Hot is an adaptation of short stories of the same title by Elizabeth Crane. Josie, the central character, struggles through her mother's death and a series of relationships, seen through the prism of a wicked sense of humor and a unique theatrical device: 3 actresses share the role of Josie, while 1 actor plays all of the male roles. Straight from Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre where it premiered in 2007 and then moved to off-Broadway, Laura Eason's play moves across the country and twists its timeline to expose the psyche of a woman in transition. Seattle Shakespeare Company Artistic Director Stephanie Shine joins Theater Schmeater for this funny and powerful ensemble portrayal of a single woman's inner life.
